Reality

Sexist bullshit, male privilege and rape apologetic whining. Here we go again. (De) I'm not going to write about everything that's wrong with this mail because I'd still be sitting here in 20 years if I did and most of it has already been said before. Several times actually.

One "point" that guy had about feminist criticism of street harassment was this:
Mir scheint, Frauen haben keinen besonders guten Bezug zur Realität, wenn sie in diesen strengen feministischen Strukturen denken bzw. handeln [...]

Translation:

It seems to me women don't have a particularly good sense of reality if they think and act in these strict feminist structures

Erm... Reality? I've heard this so often from guys, this assumption that feminism has nothing to do with reality. I guess it just came out of thin air.
I think it's safe to say that most women are very aware of the reality of being objectified by men. We've all had it happen to us at some point or other and if not, we are at least constantly reminded of it thanks to... oh, you know what I'm talking about, I don't have to spell it out, right? Ok, cool. So most women probably also know that men sometimes do that in their thoughts. So, yeah dude, we are familiar with your reality.

You, on the other hand seem to have a rather narrow concept of reality. The reality that women actually don't like being objectified, that it is not only annoying us to no end but in the form of street harassment also is an unwelcome intrusion to which you simply have no right, even if it's meant as a compliment (because appearing fuckable to some creepy stranger is the best thing that can happen to a woman) - all that apparently escapes you.

But that isn't even so much the point of this post. What bothers me most is his assumption that the way men like this distinguished example think is reality. Whatever women (or anybody for that matter) might experience or think, it has nothing to do with reality, as he is kind enough to let us know. Which is of course not only male privilege in action but also a super smooth way of dismissing everything that anybody else has to say.

Well, what can I say but congratulate him on his god-like existence?
