Time for a Change

Recently, I realized two things: a) I have too much stuff and b) I'm more and more unwilling to take part in a system that is essentially based on stuff. And money. And exploitation. It doesn't work. I don't want animals to suffer, I don't want people to starve and I don't want the climate to collapse. All these things are not going to stop as long we don't radically change our lifestyle. A lifestyle that doesn't even make us happy. Read scientific studies for that, I'm sure they are out there. More stuff does not equal more happy. People need an actual life, not an iPhone.

I know it's hard to grasp because the connection between what we do and what happens miles away is rather obscure. The point remains that if we continue living as we do, things are going to become a tiny little bit apocalyptic in the next few years. So, my lifestyle is going to change. Drastically. Here's what I'm going to do:

No more clothes that are not ethically produced or sold by chains who sell unethically produced clothes. I will either buy fair trade, vegan and organic clothes or simply second hand.
That entails: No more shopping just for fun. I will make a list of things I really need and won't buy anything that isn't on that list.
I am currently reducing my possessions. I will sell them or give them away and try to throw away as little as possible in the process.
Apart from that, I will stick to my already established standards. (Vegan lifestyle, no short distance flights, buying fair trade and mostly local products, saving energy etc.) So, in short, I will focus on the important things. Like, you know, saving the world. ^^
But these new plans are mostly about a personal liberation from a system that I very strongly disagree with. Which is why I'm blogging about it. I could have used a few hints on how to achieve that, and I still could. So if you have any ideas, let me know. I'd love to have a few like minded companions in this endeavour. =)
